| Tiivistelmä: | African medicine always imported foreign practice, first of all Arabic. There was a standard pattern of absorption of foreign practices which is revealed by ethnographic sources and insider acounts. Contact with Western culture modified these patterns as is demonstrated on the example of coastal Kenya having a budding tourist industry. |
