| Tiivistelmä: | Even in the most progressive countries, sound banking systems have not been achieved. Re-establishing well-functioning banking and financial systems in the 27 countries of post-communist east and central Europe and the former Soviet Union has been one of the harder tasks in their transition to market-based economies. None of the 27 countries have yet fully achieved that objective. The commercial banks forming the core of the banking system are still working up to the standards recommended by the Balse committee of international bank supervisors. |
