| Tiivistelmä: | Communism is dead. But the capitalism that has taken its place in Eastern Europe and Russia is still grappling inelegantly with the relationship between owneres, managers, workers, banks and stockmarkets. If you strolled through Prague's Wenceslas Square or down Nowy Swiat, Warsaw's chief shopping street, you would swear that capitalism had triumphed on communism's turf. In much of Eastern Europe the shops are full, their windows gaudy. The region's economies look brighter, too. Excluding those of the former Soviet Union, they grew by 3,4% on average last year and are expected to expand again by 3.8% in 1995. |
