A multinational offered a range of goodies for ailing local firms: infusions of capital, technology and management skills, access to global distribution channels and new markets, Western-style marketing and packaging. Often, when a suitor came calling, a shot-gun marriage was hastily arranged and the deal done with little thought for the future. |
