| Tiivistelmä: | The highlight of the EU's external agends is the first ever Asia-Europe summit to take place in Bangkok on March 1-2. It will be attended by all 15 EU government heads and by leaders of ten Asian countries. The Commission is trying to overcome French and German reservations which are holding up negotiations for a free trade agreement between the EU and South Africa. A smoother course is likely for the Commission's proposal for a modest non-preferential trade and cooperation agreement with Australia. |
