Tiivistelmä:European Monetary Union (EMU) provides the European Union (EU) with the opportunity to emulate the positive aspects of United States (US) employment performance while retaining the distinctive advantages of European social model. It will , however, succeed in doing so only if employers in Europe become entrepreneurial and adaptable in order to deal with the persistent problems of skills gaps, slow modernisation, gender gaps, and the lack of jobs. The new Employment introduced by the Amsterdam Treaty earlier in 1997 will help to create a framework in which these objectives can be achieved.
