| Tiivistelmä: | With the final figures that will determine which countries qualify for EMU about to be announced, government debt levels are proving to be the biggest stumbling block. Late this month the final figures are due to be released by the European Commission and the European Monetary Institute (EMI) which are meant to determine which coutries qualify for membership of the first round of European economic and monetary union. Bickering over the interpretation of the rules continues, and last minute doubts have been voiced over the wisdom of going ahead on the current timetable. |
