| Tiivistelmä: | According to statistics, the total output of grain in Huanghuai plain and the northeast region increased by 66.7 billion kilograms from 1984 to 1996 (among which the northeast region contributed over 18 billion kilograms), constituting 68.6 percent of the national increase amount in the same period. The outputs of corns and beans in the northeast region constituted 33 and 44 percent of national outputs respectively. Among the top ten grain-producing counties, nine counties situate in the northeast. It is forecasted that the grain output of the northeast region will amount to over 99 billion kilograms by 2005 and will provide 45 billion kilograms of commodity grain, which can feed one third of Chinese urban population, namely over 110 million people. By then half of the newly-increased 90 million people's grain can be supplied by the northeast. |
