Tiivistelmä: | This paper considers the problem of slowdown in United States. Retail sales are down, jobless claims are up, and corporate spending is taping off. The sharp deceleration coupled with a harrowing tech-stock collapse has made recession a subject for polite conversation again. Firstly, the author considers the problem of economic forecasts. He states that virtually all of them are still predicting what they call a "soft landing", in which the U.S. economy settles down to 2% to 3% growth in 2001. Then the author presents two main reasons which predicting a recession is difficult for. One of the main author's conclusions is that the risk of recession is greater than it was a year ago. |
