| Tiivistelmä: | The authors surveyed closing practices across Europe, looking at the financial year-end reporting and monthly reporting practices. The authors' primary finding was that while many organizations wanted to improve their performance few had succeeded. So the authors look in this paper at the forces driving improved performance in this area, and the obstacles organisations are encountering. This survey evidence suggests that some European companies are moving towards the standards of US companies - the to 10% take just three working days to report fully at month end. The paper is divided into the following sections: 1) Why close earlier; 2) Quick reaction time; 3) Obstacle course; 4) How to improve; 5) Why not to take a leap. |
