| Tiivistelmä: | This paper argues for the significance of a Darwinian evolutionary (hereafter as: evol-y.) perspective for design history (here as: d-h). Artifacts are viewed as manifestations of ideas which are replicated and propagated as memes. Good designs are not ideal forms, but fitting forms which have evolved through adaptation processes within particular economic, technological and social contexts. It is argued in the paper that such an evol-y. understanding would suggest rewriting d-h. |
