| Tiivistelmä: | The results of the political fund review ballots required under the 1984 Trade Union Act are presented. All 38 unions in the UK conducting a review ballot voted yes,in addition four unions without funds have voted to establish them. There was no relationship between the size of yes vote and the following variables: size of union,industrial sector,turnout and method of voting. Three variables had,however predictive power - percentage of women members, white collar union and the percentage of members paying the levy in 1984. Balloting methods are analyzed and workplace ballots are found to be more democratic than postal ballots,without influencing the outcome. |
