Tiivistelmä:After the revolution 1974, Portugal banks have been nationalized and foreign banks were kept out of the country. But competition has been forced on the rigid state-controlled system. The real change occurred in 1984 when the 15th government since 1974 abolished the restrictions. New foreign and domestic banks appeared, and supplied new services (e.g. stock market portfolios) to new customers (e.g. executives, members of liberal professions, etc.). And entering the EEC, Portugal has to deregulate its business life to conform to its allies.
