Tiivistelmä:Relying on a large number of examples, a widely-held view of competition in France in the 19th century is countered. French entrepreneurs, far from operating in a protected environment, believed strongly in the virtues of free competition, as can be seen from their supplier-customer relations. In the French practices of competition and alliances the aspect of producers' alliances is significant. The French have always sought to lessen the effects of free competition only to protect the producers' interests. It is necessary to control competition and to avoid its destructuring effects and not to eliminate it.
