Tiivistelmä:The existing scholarly consensus regards Korean management as essentially similar to Japanese management. Arguments are provided that the postulated similarity is misleading, if not wrong. In Korea promotion depends far less on seniority than it does in Japan. Whereas it is difficult to find upperlevel managers in their 40's in Japan, they are common in Korea. Several other significant differences between the two management systems are described. The three "sacred treasures" of Japanes management - the lifetime employment, the seniority wage system, and enterprise unionism - are absent from the Korean management system. The latter may, however, converge in the nineties.
