Tiivistelmä:By the year 2000, the most successful computer companies will buy computers rather than build them. The future belongs to the computerless computer company. The erosion of USA market share in global semiconductor and computer manufacturing has inspired a sense of dread in the high-tech community. Defining how computers are used, not how they are built, will create real value, and thus market power, employment and wealth. The transformation of the semiconductor industry in the 1980s, marked by the success of fabless chip producers, is a preview of changes in the 1990s. Three new rules will be important: Compete on utility, not power; monopolize the true sources of added value; maximize the sophistication of value delivered.
