Tiivistelmä:This study examines how voters respond to candidates' inconsistency issues. It is examined whether the voters response in terms of trust towards the candidate and plan to vote for the candidate is negatively affected by a candidates' inconsistency on an issue as well as by the voter's attribution of the candidate's motive to real desire to benefit the voter or to a ruse to get their vote. Moreover, it is investigated whether this negative influence is greater when the issues is relevant to the voter. An experiment is performed with 242 subjects. The findings indicate that there is a three-way interaction and the effects of inconsistency depend on the attribution and relevance.
