Tiivistelmä: | Sustainable (here as: sust.) development as a whole and especially the sust. management of substance flows (as: s-fls.) are both time issues, including the importance of the dynamics of s-fls. and the way these interconnect with the resource use, the avoidance of environmental pollution, and their effects on health and food production. Another prerequisite for the proper management of s-fls. is justice within and between generations. Temporal analysis is one tool for a systematic approach and a systematic analysis of the issues with the actions to be taken, as well. Knowledge of the temporal dynamics of s-fls. with their resultant outcomes, as well as of their interaction with ecological, economic and social systems, is a basic requirement for successful s-fls. management. Included examples are: 'nitrogen', 'BSE' or mad cow disease, 'PCBs', 'hormones', and 'antibiotics'. |
