| Tiivistelmä: | The aim of this paper is to survey the issue of state trading in the context of the GATT/WTO. The discussion will focus on the status of state trading in the GATT framework and the adequacy of the notification process that is intended to enhance the transparency of the incidence and activities of state trading enterprises among WTO members. Where relevant, reference will also be made to the literature that has recently emerged regarding the issues that the WTO should address in this area. In this regard, it is useful to separate the issues surrounding exporting from importing countries. Given the prevalence of state trading enterprises in the agricultural sector and the importance that the United States has attached to dealing with competing exporters with state trading enterprises. |
