Tiivistelmä: | This paper argues that the decoding of information into meaningful knowledge is always mediated by people's private and cultural (hereafter as: p-and-c.) models created from the unique combination of their cognitive dispositions and socio-cultural interaction. The degree to which these models are applied reflectively and/or categorically (that is, automatically) depends on the need for cognition and environmental demands and feedback, as well. Thus, knowledge transfer (as: KT) is always tentative, because it depends on the application of p-and-c. models along the continuum that goes from reflective to categorical processing. A critique of the positivist and social constructionist positions is presented, and a socio-cognitive (here as: s-c.) model capturing s-c. processes involved in sense making during KT is introduced. |
