Tiivistelmä:The importance of innovative work behaviour (IWB) of individual employees for organizational success is highlighted by both scientists and practitioners. This study aims at developing a measure of IWB with four potential dimensions: the i. exploration, ii. generation, iii. championing and iv. implementation of ideas. Based on a pilot survey among over 80 research professionals and their supervisors, an initial version of 10 items is derived. Validity analysis is drawn on survey data from over 700 matched dyads of knowledge workers and their supervisors in more than 90 knowledge intensive services firms. Confirmatory factor analyses and hierarchical multilevel regressions are utilised to test hypothesized relationships of IWB with related constructs, incl. participative leadership, external work contacts and innovative output. There is found sufficient reliability and criterion validity. However, evidence for the distinctiveness of the four dimensions was weak, suggesting the IWB being one-dimensional.
