| Tiivistelmä: | Success in tertiary studies is often measured using quality indicators (e.g. grade point average) and completion rates (here as: c-rts). These measures are especially difficult to use in many non-degree programmes with a very low completion. In this study, student achievement and demographic data from a large New Zealand polytechnic are used to provide an alternative method for determining success, allowing for comparisons across programmes and institutions despite differences in grading scales and c-rts. Furthermore, this new method allows for identifying more precisely the groups of students at the greatest risk of failure. This model is suggested to be widely applicable across different educational systems. |
