Tiivistelmä: | Identity construction and regulation have been emphasized in the current literature on resistance at work. Detailed studies about the operation of discourse at the level of talk have widened case study examinations in this area. The author adds her own analysis of divergent arguments of a technological change project in UKs public sector organization to these mentioned accounts. The author seeks to illustrate the way the arguments are constructed to attain certain interpretations of reality while opposing others. Rhetorical strategies in the articles examples include: producing a variety of identities for the resistant, IT staff and others debating the realness of people, things and processes, producing and negotiating different boundaries, and drawing on both local and wider cultural discourse. According to the article, the disputative, politically oriented and dialogical nature of identity construction is demonstrated by the focus on counter-argument as resistance. |
