Tiivistelmä:First, this article provides an examination of the boundary between the use of legal rules and codes of best practice in seeking to promote effective corporate governance. Next, the historical developments in self-regulation are reviewed in the UK over the past decade and the concept of collibration is introduced, a concept first used in cybernetics for explaining how advanced systems self-adjusted to changes in pressure and tensions exerted them. It is suggested that corporate governance regulation is currently moving toward a form of collibration. The findings are finally synthesized and a tentative model for the development of corporate governance is suggested.
