Tiivistelmä:The study deals with the differences in knowledge production (hereafter as: knwl-prd.) btw. academic (as: acd.) researchers (here as: rshrs.), attempting at first to answer the following question: What factors explain differences in knwl-prd. btw. Canadian rshrs. on natural sciences and engineering? (here as: nat-sc. and engrng.) After presenting some empirical evidence related to this question, introduced is a distinction btw. two types of acd. institutions, entrepreneurial (as: entpr.) vs. non-entrepreneurial (as: non-entpr.) universities. Four empirical models are suggested to test differences in knwl-prd. btw. entpr. and non-entrp. rshrs. It is shown that: 1. funding, time devoted to teaching activities, research team and individual attributes have a similar but differentiated impact on knwl-prd. of entpr. and non-entpr. rshrs. 2. there are some unbalanced effects of the variables cooperation, time devoted to research activities, acd. fields and university size on the knwl-prd. of Canadian rshrs. on nat-sc. and engrng.
