| Tiivistelmä: | Efficiency problems of information service department spending, and the ways of cutting back cost figures without hurting operations are discussed through several examples. It was found that although most companies spend too much on their data centres, not every IS shop is wasteful. It is shown how Compass America, Inc., approaches work: it plots data center performance in a number of areas in comparison with a reference group benchmark. One of the Big Six accounting firms is now trying to emulate Compass Holding and Real Decision Corp. by providing what is known as techmetrics, a measuring method to compare effectiveness of two firms, in their IS activities. |
