Tiivistelmä:It is important for managers making revisions to sales forecasts generated initially by a quantitative model that the particular forecasts selected for adjustment are those which benefit most from the adjustment process. An empirical investigation is presented for a big UK health industry company, spanning six quarterly forecasting periods and incorporating forecasting data over 850 products. It was shown that forecasting errors chosen for the revision are higher than those not chosen for revision. Managers tend to revise forecasts which are initially low, therefore possibly introducing some bias into the overall forecasts.
