| Tiivistelmä: | This study aims to explore strategies for building personal relationships with an organization's members, and to examine the outcomes of personal relationships in an advocacy organization. Based on a case study including interviews with 39 staff people at national, state, and affiliate levels of the organization, 58 current and five former members, a total of over 100 participants. Document analysis and participant observation were supplemental methods. The following strategies for keeping up personal relationships were identified: direct engagement, constitutive rhetoric, hat-in-your-hand, investment in local relationships, peer linking, task sharing, and targeting of affiliates for diversity efforts. Moreover, the outcomes of personal relationships were explored. The study's findings include affective commitment, member recuitment and retention, political leverage, and social capital. |
