| Tiivistelmä: | This paper aims at presenting the notion of knowledge outsourcing (KO) as an alternative strategy for knowledge management (KM). In order to explore the KO processes and activities at a for-profit higher education enterprise, a case study research method is used. Using the case data, a general process model of KO is developed. Highlighted are three conditions under which KO may be a suitable strategy for KM. In addition, two main areas of KO risk are identified. Dealing with a single case, the findings may be likely influenced by the peculiarities of the very case. A more refined theory for KO can be developed through further empirical validation with more cases. |
