Tiivistelmä:The product–service system (PSS / hereafter also as: PSSs.) concept has been proposed as a way of dealing with unsustainable patterns of consumption (hereafter as: cons-patt./ cons-patts.) in the business-to-consumer (B2C) domain. Existing alternatives to traditional consumption are based on ownership, such as car sharing, communal washing centres and tool sharing schemes. This study analyses the aforementioned examples from institutional and PSS perspectives, suggesting that the embodiment of alternative cons-patts. into every day routines depends on institutional arrangements on how the PSSs are designed and applied in practice, and on the socio-cultural background of the society the systems are implemented in.
