Tiivistelmä:This study investigates the use and meaning of outdoor ice rings in UK cities. The study is based on theories of ‘expressive embodimentÂ’. With this theory it is possible to explore how rinks also encourage particular ways of performing and interacting that contest current critiques of the effects of entrepreneurial urban governance. The survey was made by paying attention to increasingly popular temporary public ice rinks in UK as a way to think through some larger questions and debates about cities and their management, about public space, about ways of performing, relating and interacting in those cities and spaces. There findings reveal several reasons to install ice rinks in the cities in winter time. Above all ice rinks can be seen as a tactic of entrepreneurial governance. Public ice rinks are often understood as a gift to the people from urban managers and corporate sponsors and at the same time used as tools for economic regeneration, place promotion, health improvement and social inclusion.
