Tiivistelmä: | The paper examines some of the findings of a long-term research project undertaken to investigate the perceptions and attitudes surrounding museum or art gallery visits and their desired characteristics. Over the course of a number of years, the project broadened to allow the investigation of dimensions of the adult tourist's experience of museum and gallery visits. The study was made by collecting data consisting of internal and sector or professional interviews and series of four user and potential user focus groups as well as one internal employee focus group. The findings revealed that the desired gallery experience was one of learning via the consideration of, immersion in and reflection upon the objects and environments presented as having artistic relevance. The aim in museum experience design would be to help design and allocate the perceived optimal mix of space types for the intended audience and their desired overall experience. |
