| Tiivistelmä: | Using the literature on diversification, this study examines the effect of product diversity and geographic diversity on the performance of SMEs. An inverted U shaped relationship btw. product (geographic) diversification (PD/GD) and the performance of SMEs is proposed. It is also proposed that effect of PD and GD is contingent on one another and the top management team (TMT) experience. Both PD and GD are found to have an inverted U shaped relationship with the SME performance. Furthermore, in affecting firm performance, PD and GD interact positively to enhance each other's value. TMT experience also improves the value of PD and GD for firm performance. |
