Tiivistelmä:This study examines the role of social capital (hereafter as: soc-cap.) in raising research productivity (here as: res-prd.) in academic institutions. As a strategic resource embedded in social (here as: soc.) relationships, soc-cap. can be used to decrease pressures from external environmental conditions, e.g. the global financial crisis. Using a survey of academic staff in five universities in Victoria concerning their frequency of communications and res-prd., there is found a significant and positive correlation btw. soc. interactions and res-prd. It is found through regression analysis that soc. interactions as an independent variable predict res-prd. of academics.
