Tiivistelmä:This study explores the assumption that senior-level undergraduate students from private (hereafter as: prv.) colleges / universities have higher levels of moral and ethical development than students from public (pbl.) institutions (as: insts). Furthermore, it is aimed at determining if there is a) a relationship btw. narcissistic (nrs.) personality traits (as: p-traits) and the level of moral reasoning (as: mrl-rsg.), and b) a difference in the level of nrs. p-traits of business students from prv. vs. pbl. insts. based on demographic and textual variables. Using a cluster sampling approach, the sample was limited to students majoring in general business at 7 pbl. and 6 prv. universities in North Dakota and Minnesota of the United States. A total of 269 students participated in the research project: 145 at prv. insts. and 124 at pbl ones. Using the Defining Issues Test version 2 (DIT-2) and the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI), students from pbl. and prv. insts. scored similarly on the DIT-2. There is found a significant difference btw. the NPI scores of the prv. college students (herein as: c-stds.) and the pbl. c-stds. Yet, no significant relationship was found btw. the NPI score and level of mrl-rsg. An increase in the number of business ethics courses completed did not significantly impact on mrl-rsg. or nrs. traits of the students.
