Tiivistelmä:In the last two decades, the decline in productivity has been one of the most alarming trends in the United States. Will declining productivity push the USA into the second tier of nations in terms of wealth and income? Perhaps, unless companies change the emphasis of productivity programs from people-centered strategies, such as quality circlers, to fundamental long-lasting alterations in the organizational psyche and culture. The problems of productivity measurement are briefly reviewed. Research results on recruitment and selection are summarized. The influence of employee ownership, participation, monetary incentives (gain sharing) and training is discussed. it is shown why most productivity programs have failed.
