Tiivistelmä:The aim of this analysis of public support for foreign trade in France, Great Britain, Japan and the USA is, firstly, to present a comparative description of national systems of export promotion, and, secondly, to ascertain which concepts and instruments have proved of value in these countries. National characteristics of these counties' markets have been described and the results of the international comparison have been set out. The presentation has been based on individual instruments of export promotion and their organizational principles. The question of what Germany can learn from overseas' experience has been evaluated.
