Tiivistelmä:A fairly fast growth in the number of small business has changed the structure of Slovene economy considerable. The paper identifies some of these typical structural changes and concentrates on crucial problems of SME's identified through two sets of questionnaires gathered under the project PHARE - Technical Assistance for SME's in Slovenia.Entrepreneurs and consultants mentioned important problems in the areas of marketing and sales, finances, management, production, exports and R&D.In order to support small firms Slovene government has built an extensive supporting network to assist growing SME's, it has founded the Small Business Development Fund and some other institutions but a definite profile of the support is still missing. Also the process of spin-offs from lareger companies still didn't produce a number of new small companies.More moves can be expected in the time following the ownership transformation of firms with social capital.
