Tiivistelmä:During the 1990s, the Brazilian television system evolved into a private , quasimonopoly of sound, image, and textual media (Amaral, 1978, 1983). TV channels are owned and distributed nationally by the federal government, and broadcasting licences, permissions, and authorizations benefit hundreds of owners. Yet, the transmission of sound and image has become highly monopolistic. This was the aim of the Brazilian military dictatorship in 1964-1984. The trend toward monopoly persisted after the military lost power.
