Tiivistelmä:Article presents a framework for comparing and evaluating efforts in reengineering, or business process redesign. The framework is applied to the study of the reengineering of the securities processing function at the brokerage and financial services firm Merrill Lynch. The firm's new and old processes are compared. The new process features image processing, character recognition, and extensive redesign. Hammer and Champy emphasize four key words in their framework for reengineering: Fundamental - Why does an organization do things in a certain way ? Radical - Get to the root of a process , look for reinvention. Dramatic - Reengineering is not about marginal or incremental improvements but about achieving quantum leaps in performance. Processes - Business as a collection of activities.
