| Tiivistelmä: | China's bid to rejoin the WTO in April 1996 failed again due to resistance from the United States and EU countries (and perhaps also Canada and Japan), which requested China to make more concessions than it was prepared to make. China launched its bid to rejoin the GATT in July 1986 and is now in its tenth year of this long march to gain a place in the international trade system regulated previously by the GATT and now by the WTO. But most observers have doubts whether the march can reach its end in any near future. |
