| Tiivistelmä: | In this paper, the authors test the synergy and internalization hypotheses for international acquisitions using a sample of foreign acquisitions of US firms during the period 1979-90. The major findings include: first, shareholders of the paired sample of US targets and foreign acquieries experienced significantly positive combined wealth gains, indicating that cross-border takeovers are generally synergy-creating activities; second, shareholders of the US targets realized significant wealth gains, regardless of th nationality of acquirers. |
