| Tiivistelmä: | The reform and opening to the outside has brought about the gradual public contacts of trade and economy across the Taiwan Straits resulting in the concurrent exchange of trade and capital. By the end of 1994 the trade volume between Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland had accounted for 13.4% of the mainland total volume of trade with foreign countries in 1994. The development of trade contacts across the Straits in the environment of world economic integration with striking characteristics of the time and the superiority complementation with each other's comparative advantage have become the convincing rational for strengthening trade and economic contacts across the Straits. The reciprocal promotion of economy across the Straits will be the prelude to integration and will serve as a basis and bridge in developing the relationship. |
