Tiivistelmä:The article deals with the total quality management (TQM) concepts and their implications in the construction industry. Reference is made to industry surveys conducted in the U.S. and to published literature. It is concluded that project managers and company administrators in the construction industry should consider certain points in developing their quality systems, including: Management must participate in the implementation process and be fully committed to it if TQM is to succeed, engineering, architecture, and construction management students who eventually become the industry's future leaders must be instructed in the basics of quality management, teamwork is necessary to allow each person to get the assistance required to be successful individually and collectively as a team, statistical methods are essential problem solving tools and are very important in monitoring quality in manufacturing industries, taking measures to achieve high quality costs money, but this ought to be considered an investment, instead of an expense.
