| Tiivistelmä: | Is there any potential for further trade between the EU and the CEECs (Central and Eastern European Countries)? At the aggregate level, it is now very difficult to argue that a surge in imports from the CEEcs into the EU is at all likely. Export to GDP ratios of many of the CEEcs are now similar to those of Western European countries of similar size. Slightly more sophisticated economic modelling using the gravity model of bilateral trade flows suggests that the level of trade between EU and the CEECs is about what one would expect given current levels of disposable income in the CEECs and their relative proximity to the EU. |
