Tiivistelmä:The Treaty establishing African Economic Community (AEC) was signed at Abuja, the Federal Capital City of Nigeria, by representatives of the Member States of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on 3 June 1991. It entered into force on 12 May 1994, after recieving the required number of ratifications. On 3 June 1997, at the Harare Summit, the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the OAU reconstituted itself as the Assembly of the AEC, thus bringing into being the designated "Supreme Organ of the Community".
