Tiivistelmä:Russia was once heralded as the workers' paradise. The long road from overcoming serfdom under the Mongols and the Czars, to fighting German fascists and then to losing the cold War -- always hoping to arrive at the haven of a classless society of well-treated workers -- has been a difficult and disillusioning journey. One of the major sources of contemporary Russian workers' disillusionment is the disconcerting fact that the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has the highest percentage of reported work fatalities per 100,000 workers among major world powers.
