Tiivistelmä:The authors state that political advertising is unique. It i first and foremost, a critically important source of information for voters in election campaigns. In the last tw decades of the twentieth century, political advertising surpassed news and other traditional political sources as th majority of voters' most important source of voting information. The authors answer the question what the issues of concern to political advertising researchers evidenced in this special issue are. Not surprisingly, and of particular importance given the lack of regulatory oversight, the authors continue to study message strategies and how these messages are processed by potential voters. The authors study intended and unintended effects of these strategic decisions, such as voter backlash and alienation.
