| Tiivistelmä: | As a measure to increase the competitiveness and performance of German Universities the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has initiated a new scale of salaries for professors. In principal agent theory it is wel known that, apart from additional effort, performance- based payments expose agents to cost of (income) risk. The authors develop a model to calculate both, the individual and the collective risk premiums of professors ("agents"). According to the authors' results, the individual risk premiums will run up to several hundred DM per month. The sum of the risk premiums of all agents will come up to a maximum of about 230 million DM per annum. Provided that these risk compensations are actually not paid, the authors have to expect that German universities'll become not more but less competitive. |
