Tiivistelmä:This paper explores and addresses the mechanisms operating btw. levels of institutionalized values and opportunities for strategic choice. It is shown how values from the surrounding society are embedded as deep structures (hereafter as: d-struct/s.) in the corporation studied. It is found that the d-struct. elements guide change by forming outer limits (here as: o-lmts.) to strategic choices. These o-lmts. are translated, produced and re-produced by so-called "transformational structures" (here as: t-structs). It is argued that t-structs. serve the dual purpose of upholding stability while enabling organizational change. The findings are based on a study of a dairy corporation based on interviews and annual reports from the last 30 years (original in Norwegian).
